Recovery in Art Exhibition opens in Gloucester

03/06/2009

An exhibition of artwork by people experiencing or recovering from mental health problems opens in Gloucester this Friday (5th June, 2009).

The second annual Recovery in Art Exhibition will run until Saturday, 27th June, at St Nicholas Church, Westgate Street. About 80 pieces of artwork by 30 exhibitors will feature in the exhibition run by the 2gether NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with The Churches Conservation Trust.

“Art helps the recovery process of service users by giving people alternative ways to express themselves, increasing their self-confidence and regaining creative interest, which can be crushed by ill health,” said Occupational Therapist Joanna Denney.

“We are all looking forward to this exhibition as it is in a socially inclusive community setting. We hope as many Gloucester people as possible will come along to see the work on display.”

Some of the artwork will be available for sale.

The exhibition opens officially at 6.15pm on Friday, 5th June, and will be open on Thursdays and Fridays (10.30-2.30) and Saturdays (11-4) until 27th June.
