2gether earns top rating again for fighting fraud

17/12/2009

The 2gether NHS Foundation Trust has received the highest possible rating for its work in fighting fraud for the second year running.

The NHS Counter Fraud and Security Management Service (CFSMS) gave the Trust an overall rating of 4 – the top score – for its counter fraud work in 2008-09.

It praised 2gether for exceptional performance and innovation in its counter fraud work and said the Trust could share good practice with other NHS organisations.

Local Counter Fraud Specialist Sallie Cheung said: “We are delighted with this rating which is achieved thanks to the support of colleagues throughout the Trust.

“We would like to thank staff for their willingness to help us prevent individuals cheating the NHS out of valuable resources. This rating sends out a strong message to anyone thinking of defrauding 2gether that they will be caught and risk punishment through the courts.”

2gether’s counter fraud achievements during 2008-09 included successful legal action against two former employees – a Domestic Assistant and a Healthcare Assistant – who worked elsewhere while claiming full sick pay from the NHS.

Magistrates fined both offenders and they are now repaying the wages they received while fraudulently claiming sick pay.

The Local Counter Fraud Service investigated 13 reported cases of fraud at 2gether during 2008-09 and recovered £7,240.54.
