Service Users and Carers
2gether NHS Foundation Trust for Gloucestershire values the experience and expertise of Service Users and Carers and wants to strengthen the Service User/Carer voice in the planning, delivery and evaluation of mental health and learning disability services.
Getting Involved - What Can I Do?
By giving the Trust the benefit of your knowledge, skills and experience, you can help the Trust deliver services that meet the needs of those people who use them. There are opportunities to influence service delivery and development by involvement in: -
- Planning/project groups
- Recruitment and Selection of Staff
- Reviewing Trust Services
- Research
- Service User and Carer Groups/Forums
- Staff Training
What is Expected of Me?
As part of committee meetings, planning groups and workshops there is an expectation that:
- You will give your views on topics of interest to you
- If appropriate you may also represent the views of other Carers and Service Users you come into contact with.
- Be prepared to praise good ideas and practice as well as challenge things that you don’t agree with in a constructive way.
- Ask if you don’t understand something. Remember you may not be the only one!
- Work collectively with other members of the group.
- Where applicable, read papers in advance of meetings and prepare as necessary.
What Can I Expect?
- A one to one meeting with the Service User or Carer Participation Worker.
- Ongoing support from the Service User or Carer Participation Worker.
- That people in charge of meetings or organisers follow best practice guidelines when involving Services Users and carers in meetings.
- Training
- Expenses and in some case payment for time
Getting Involved is about you bringing your ideas about what you think is important for specialist mental health, substance misuse and learning disability services in Gloucestershire.
If you would like to talk to someone about getting involved please contact the Service User or Carer Participation Workers on 891612 or email kathy.holmes@glos.nhs.uk

Carers Information Pack
Who is the Pack For?
The Information pack is for relatives, partners or friends who provide support to people with mental illness.
Why Has it Been Developed?
People caring for someone with mental illness rarely consider themselves to be carers. This often means that they do not receive or ask for the help and support they need.
Carers are in fact people who out of a sense of love, duty and compassion, struggle to live their own lives and at the same time do their best to help a family member of friend.
People who care for someone with mental illness play a valuable role in promoting their recovery.
One of the things expressed constantly by carers is that information to support them in their caring role is not easily available. This information pack has been written in consulation with trust staff, local carers and carers groups to act as a guide to services provided by 2gether NHS Foundation Trust to people with mental illness and to provide carers with the information they need to support them in their caring role. The pack contains information on mental illnesses and treatments, carers assessments and benefits and where to go for further help.
How Do I Obtain a Carers Pack?
Ask a member of staff for a copy of the pack. If you are having difficulty getting a copy or the person you support is not receiving services from 2gether copies can be obtained by contacting:
- GUIDE & PALS 0800 0151 548
- Carers Gloucestershire 01452 386283
